Advertisements are positive part of life while others say that it is negative.

Advertisements are positive part of life while others say that it is negative.

Advertisements are positive as well as negative effects. So I discuss in this essay both kind of effects. In a competitive society or in a capitalistic country like ours advertisements are a necessity. Factories, mass-products, goods, shops and firms sell them. The advertisements of these goods are meant to attract a wide variety of customers to buy them. The production of goods without quick sale is to no purpose.

We have different kinds of advertisements to promote sale. Advertising that gives information to about new products or about health and safety is called informative advertising. These inform consumers about the range of goods and service available to them.

The kind of advertising that persuades people to buy things is called persuasive advertisements. Persuasive advertising is directed at customers who do not need to buy products very much. Then there is deceptive advertising. This makes people believe products to be better than they are when customers buy the products they realize the deception played upon them. Which makes the product unpopular? When persuasive advertising becomes deceptive, the results are often negative.

The advertising of cigarettes, undesirable dress, expensive foods, harmful soft drinks and time wasting games should be discouraged. Cosmetics and items of make-up that cause waste of money and negative effects on the health should not be put at public places.

The advertiser who misinforms the public about their products and services and about those of their competitors should be tried in courts of law and punished. There should be strict laws for this, which should be carefully and forcefully implemented.

The visual or colour pollution caused by the numerous pictures, signs, slogans and writings on billboards should immediately be checked. In the big cities, all spaces around the main roads and public parks are clogged with these most of which are a kind of nuisance. They take away the atmospheric openness and charm of the skyline-the skyline which promotes health and vision.

In any case, advertisements are something of a necessity in the modern world of competition. They introduce the new products to the general public. Advertisements in newspapers for jobs in government departments and private organizations are highly useful. They help the office and agencies to get readily trained man power from the public. They help the educated public to get jobs and employments. The labour force gets work in government offices, market places and production centers through newspaper advertisements.

The government advertises its schemes and policies to inform the public and to make it participate in them. It has advertised in the past its new housing plans, saving schemes, educational policies, issuance of identity cards etc. off and on. They introduce the new products to the general public for example, the public comes to know readily of some new medicines for diseases, effective techniques of constructing houses through companies having specialized knowledge, availability of new methods of teaching and unusual educational arrangements, new and useful fertilizers and equipment for agriculture that can add very rapidly to agricultural production and so on.
